Real Madrid are actively looking to secure the signing of Arsenal centre-back William Saliba this summer, despite Arsenal demanding a hefty fee for the defender.
Los Blancos are renowned for paying incredibly high transfer amounts for players since the dawn of the second generation of Galacticos (Cristiano, Benzema, Kaka, Hazard etc), despite paying nearly close to nothing for high calibre Kylian Mbappe prior to the season.
Currently, the Spanish giants’ next big money signing on the list is Arsenal’s solid defender, William Saliba. Saliba has been in excellent form for the Gunners this season, paired with Gabriel Magalhaes who make a solid centre-back duo.
According to reports from RMC sport, Madrid have made Saliba a priority signing this coming summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will not be particularly keen of letting go of their key defender, but if left with no option will demand nothing less than £80 million for Saliba.
Considering the defender wants to leave the Emirates, Saliba will go down as the most expensive defender, surpassing the amount Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire from Leicester City in 2019.
Saliba’s contract with Arsenal runs until 2027, which means Mikel Arteta’s side will not be pressured into letting go of Saliba.
The centre-back has been a standout at the Emirates under Arteta, scoring seven goals and two assists in 116 appearances.
🚨 Arsenal have no intention of selling William Saliba despite Real Madrid's willingness to table a record-breaking bid.
