Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy believes his side’s Nedbank Cup quarter-final against Mamelodi Sundowns has come at the “right” time.
The Citizens are set to lock horns with the Brazilians at Cape Town Stadium, with both side’s eager to book their place in the semi-final of the competition.
McCarthy will be hoping City can return to winning ways when they take on Pitso Mosimane’s side after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Costa do Sol in their Caf Confederation Cup encounter on 18 March.
“While this is an opportunity for us to redeem ourselves after the Caf defeat, we are up against a formidable opponent in Sundowns,” McCarthy told Cape Argus.
“But this is perhaps the right time to be playing Sundowns – they are focused on the Champions League and Orlando Pirates are breathing down their necks in the race for the PSL title.
“For us, the Sundowns game is huge. It’s an unbelievable opportunity. We are two games away now from being in a final another final.”
The match at Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
