Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret admits that SuperSport United were the better team following their 4-1 defeat in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday.
Bradley Grobler, Jeremy Brockie and Kingston Nkhatha all got on the scoresheet for Matsatsantsa while Oupa Manyisa netted the only goal for the Buccaneers from the penalty spot.
Jonevret admits that his side were hoping to redeem themselves in the final following their 6-0 thrashing by Matsatsantsa earlier this year.
“Of course it is a nightmare, this is not what we had hoped for,” Jonevret told SuperSport TV.
“A fantastic atmosphere, all these supporters here and we wanted to have a little bit of a revenge for what happened earlier in the season.”
The 54-year-old admits that the Soweto giants were outplayed by the better team on the day, despite his side not sticking to the game plan.
“There is not so much to talk about, they [SuperSport] where a much better team than us today. But at the same time, I thought in the first half we were a little afraid when we had the ball,” he added.
“They stepped up pretty high and I liked that, but there were too many players that were ball-watching.
“We gave up the goal, but still, 1-0 is not too bad, but in the second half the players started doing crazy things and not following the game-plan. But I can understand there was frustration out there.”
Jonevret insists that he has identified the problems in the team and will be hoping to resolve the issue before the start of the new season.
“We have a lot of ideas [for the future], SuperSport today were better than us, but hopefully we can build something for next season. There is two or three weeks break and then we are there [training] again.
“It is going to be tough for us, you saw that today. We had some problems out there,” Jonevret concluded.
