Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp refused to be drawn into questions about his future should Chiefs lose the upcoming Nedbank Cup final, but instead insisted his team will win the cup and that he has a lengthy contract with the club.
The Soweto giants will come up against National First division side TS Galaxy on Saturday evening in what is a must win game for Amakhosi should they want to bring some respectability back to the club after what has been a poor campaign.
Chiefs finished the league season with a run of seven games without a win which subsequently saw the Glamour Boys finish outside the top eight for the first time in 12 years.
This form has thus drawn questions on the German tactician’s future should Saturday’s clash against the side outside the topflight not go according to plan.
Middendorp though struck down the question stating he will not deal in if’s and that he has a contract at Chiefs which is over many years.
‘You cannot … Don’t approach me with if, if, if, and again if. I think if you want to write something about ‘if’, and what’s your option in case of ‘if’, then just do it. But, please, don’t expect an answer from my side in case of ‘if’.’
The Chiefs coach was in a positive mood and stated that he will provide the club with the silverware which it craves so badly.
‘We have a very clear target to win this cup and that’s what we are doing.
‘Whatever you’re saying in this moment, I have a contract over [a certain amount of] years and I will win this cup – that’s our target.
‘And I’m not going into it and looking into options you are creating now. Please, do me a favour, this is definitely something that I’m not answering,’ concluded the German.
