Tornado coach: Chiefs didn’t threaten us

Tornado FC coach Tshepo Motsoeneng admitted that he believes Kaizer Chiefs did not threaten his side in their Nedbank Cup clash, saying that his side was not outclassed.

The Soweto giants had to battle hard against the amateur side and were forced into extra-time before an own goal from Abongile Twani gifted Chiefs a 1-0 win.

The ABC Motsepe League outfit, however, gave a good account of themselves and Motsoeneng admitted after the game that he was happy with the way his charges played

‘What can I say? I thought we could have done better in some instances, I thought we could have caught them on transitions. But I thought my players were on some “people should see what I can do” instead of playing for the team,’ Motsoeneng told SuperSport after the game.

‘You need to be a team player so people can come and scout you. That was first half. Second half, we started slow, but we got to the game. At the end of the day we had to score ourselves [in order for them to beat us]. They gave us nothing, they were not threatening us in a way I could say we were outclassed. We were sitting in front of them.

‘We knew what they were going to do, I know Middendorp he’s going to go wide, diagonal. Wide, diagonal trying to catch us. I’m proud of the boys. I can go home and sleep. I’m so happy. We’re going for the league! I have no fear. I had no fear for this team [Kaizer Chiefs]. I was angry when we started, but I said I will take the pressure.

‘They didn’t score. We scored ourselves. We had to score ourselves for them to come out of this. But it’s okay, it’s football, we learn from these things,’ Motsoeneng concluded.
