Former Bafana Bafana star Bradley Carnell is in line to potential join up with former coach Ralph Ragnick as one of the German coach’s assistants at Manchester United, according to reports.
MTNFC.co.za reported on Thursday that sources close to Carnell have indicated that he is being earmarked for one of the assistant roles at Old Trafford.
The former Bafana star enjoyed the best part of his playing career under Ragnick at Stuttgart in the Bundesliga and after rekindling the relationship in 2014 the 44-year-old was brought into the Red Bull football organisation at their club in Major League Soccer in the US.
Ragnick’s visa issues should be wrapped for him to be in charge by the time the Red Devils face Crystal Palace on Saturday. It is believed that Carnell’s appointment could follow later in the month.
Carnell left his assistants role at Orlando Pirates in 2017 to join New York Red Bulls where he has since explained how he got the job.
”It stems from 2001 when Ralf Rangnick was my coach at VfB Stuttgart, and I had one of my best playing stints under him.
“It was a good time for him as a coach and me as a player. We made it to the UEFA Cup final and we maintained a link. In 2014 we reignited our relationship. We’ve been in constant exchanges since then, and now he’s part of the global brand with Red Bull. The Stuttgart imprint is quite big within the brand now.”
