Frank Lampard has been given permission by Derby to discuss the vacant mangers role with Chelsea, with Derby hoping for a quick resolution as the season approaches.
The Chelsea legend has been touted to become the new Blues manager ever since it became apparent that Maurizio Sarri would be leaving the club.
His current club have now reluctantly agreed to let the 41-year-old enter into negotiations and stressed that they want a long-running saga brought to a close as swiftly as possible.
The Rams said in a statement on their official website: ‘Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.
‘With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.
‘The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.’

Lampard is just one season into his management career after retiring from football in 2016
He hung up his boots in 2016 and spent two years weighing up his options before moving into coaching. He impressed in his debut campaign as he guided the Rams to the play-off final where Aston Villa ended the clubs Premier League dreams.
The former England international spent 13 years at the Blues but will be stepping into a testing role that will see him having to work under a two-window transfer embargo should he get the job.
