Manchester United have confirmed the capture of Shakhtar Donetsk and Brazil midfielder Fred, their first addition this transfer window.
The midfielder will join the Red Devils for a reported fee of €55 million after he completed a medical at Carrington on Monday.
United’s have fought off competition from cross-town rivals Manchester City who were keen on sealing a deal for Fred in the January transfer window.
With Michael Carrick having retired and Marouane Fellaini reportedly looking to leave Old Trafford, the arrival of a midfield reinforcement would certainly please Jose Mourinho.

The Brazilian will battle for a spot in United’s midfield with Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay.
Fred made his senior debut for Internacional in 2012 before securing a move to Shakhtar in 2013. He became a crucial part of the team and saw his performance’s earn him a spot in the Brazilian national side.
He has been capped eight times by Brazil after making his international debut in 2014 and is part of the squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
United fans will be able to watch Fred in action when Brazil start their World Cup campaign against Switzerland in Rostov on June 17.
