Premier League team of the week – Gameweek 4

Gameweek 4 of the Premier League saw a late Arsenal win over Manchester United, while Nottingham Forest snatched a win away at Stamford Bridge.

Take a look at SoccerMag’s best 11 performers from Gameweek 4 of the Premier League.

We used buildlineup.com to put our team onto paper, but our selections are explained below.
Goalkeeper
Matt Turner – Nottingham Forest
One of only two goalkeepers to keep a clean sheet in gameweek 4, Matt Turner had a solid performance against Chelsea.  His afternoon was surprisingly quiet but the American made his saves when needed.

Defenders
Joe Gomez – Liverpool
Joe Gomez made his first start for Liverpool in months due to the suspension of Virgil van Dijk. Gomez stepped up in his captain’s absence with an overall dominant display. Completing over 100 passes, the centre back was composed in possession, pulling the strings from deep.

Nathan Ake – Manchester City
Nathan Ake scored a breakthrough goal for Manchester City against Fulham. It was surrounded by controversy, but nevertheless the Dutchman’s goal was allowed. Ake had a great performance and will be hoping to continue this momentum into the international break.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool
Trent Alexander-Arnold lived his dream against Aston Villa, becoming the first Liverpool local to captain a Premier League fixture since Steven Gerrard. Trent’s passing display was one of his finest in a red shirt and managed to get his 55th Premier League assist, placing him above Mesut Ozil, Eden Hazard and Juan Mata.

Midfielders
Declan Rice – Arsenal
Little needs to be said about Declan Rice’s performance against Manchester United.  The 105-million-pound player showed his worth by controlling the midfield and scoring in the 98th minute to give the Gunners the win.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – Everton
Despite Everton’s woeful start to the season, French midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has continued to put in shifts. He opened the scoring against Sheffield to put the Toffees ahead, this was also the first goal of Everton’s season.

Martin Odegaard – Arsenal
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard once again proved he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. His equaliser against Manchester United was a fine finish and his overall impact on the game is invaluable, with his linkup and vision simply amazing to watch.

Forwards
Heung-min Son – Tottenham Hotspur
The first of three forwards to have scored a hat-trick last weekend, Heung-min Son is flying in Harry Kane’s absence. All three of his goals were of the highest quality. The relationships developing between Son, Solomon and Maddison should have the rest of the league worried.

Evan Ferguson – Brighton and Hove Albion
Evan Ferguson has already claimed the title of Brighton’s next star.  The Irishman scored a sensational solo goal for his second, but it is his overall style of play that makes him so exciting. We could be witnessing the emergence of the next Harry Kane or Wayne Rooney.

Odsonne Edouard – Crystal Palace
Odsonne Edouard has hit the ground running this season.  His brace against Wolves has taken his tally to three goals in four appearances so far this season.  Palace will need the Frenchman to continue his form if they are to keep pushing higher in the table.

Erling Haaland – Manchester City
Another week, another weekend filled with goals from Erling Haaland. Haaland’s hat-trick takes his total to six goals in four games, topping the goal-scoring charts.
