Gameweek 9 of the Premier League saw Chelsea surprise the Gunners at Stamford Bridge, while Spurs went two points clear at the top of the table with a win against Fulham.

We used buildlineup.com to put our team onto paper, but our selections are explained below.

Goalkeeper
Guglielmo Vicario – Tottenham Hotspurs
Vicario had a solid performance in goal for Spurs against Fulham. He was rarely tested throughout the 90 minutes but stepped up when it mattered. He looks to be a superb Hugo Lloris replacement.

Defenders
Virgil Van Dijk – Liverpool
A relatively comfortable day at the office for the Reds captain. Van Dijk was impressive at the back, dominating any aerial ball Everton attempted, as well as cleaning up any chances in behind. When the Dutchman shows form like this, he is one of the best defenders in the world.

Christian Romero – Tottenham Hotspurs
The Argetinian World Cup winner is a warrior. Romero’s aggression when defending in combination with his reading of the game is a joy to watch. He made crucial challenges against Fulham, putting out any fires before they started.

Diogo Dalot – Manchester United
Dalot has been hit and miss so far this season, much like the rest of the Manchester United squad. Against Sheffield, the Portuguese fullback stepped up when his side needed him this week, scoring an absolute screamer to win it for the Red Devils.

Midfielders
Douglas Luiz – Aston Villa
The Brazilian has found the best form of his career under Unai Emery this season, and this weekend was the perfect showcase of his development.
Luiz scored a brace against West Ham and was influential in all spheres of the game. His contributions, creatively and defensively, in addition to the number of goals he is scoring, makes him one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Declan Rice – Arsenal
Declan Rice was clutch for the Gunners as they struggled against Chelsea. For most of the game, Arsenal struggled to consistently threaten Chelsea and looked to be going home empty handed. Rice stepped up late and provided the spark needed for his side’s comeback.

Bryan Mbeumo – Brentford
After struggling for the past couple of weeks, Bryan Mbeumo looks back to the form he started the season with. A goal and an assist in Brentford’s 3-0 win over Burnley was exactly what the Bees needed going into gameweek 10.

Mattheus Cunha – Wolves
Another Brazilian making our selection this week, Mattheus Cunha had a great performance in Wolves’ comeback against Bournemouth. Cunha scored Wolves’ equalizer to begin their comeback and was an overall threatening presence on the field.

Jacob Murphy – Newcastle United
Jacob Murphy is yet another player that has elevated his game under the management of Eddie Howe.
Murphy was a bit-part player in previous seasons at Newcastle, but has recently seen an impressive improvement in his overall influence on games. Murphy scored Newcastle’s first and provided two assists in their 4-0 demolition of Crystal Palace.

Forwards
Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest
New Zealand international Chris Wood has excelled since his move from Newcastle at the beginning of the season. Wood has begun to nail down a regular starting spot and is being rewarded with goals. A brace against Luton Town took the striker to three goals this season.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool
The Egyptian King stepped up when the Reds needed him once again. Salah struggled against Mykolenko for most of the game, with the Ukranian leaving little space to capitalise on. This was not enough. Salah managed to bag a brace against the Toffees, going into second spot in the race for the golden boot with seven goals.
