SportsClub selects the Premier League Team of the Week as Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scores four and Cenk Tosun bags a brace, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
Team of the Week formation: 4-3-3
Goalkeeper: Asmir Begovic (Bournemouth)
The 30-year-old goalkeeper played a vital role in his side’s victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Begovic made four crucial saves to ensure his side stayed in the game after going 1-0 down early on. This laid the platform for the Cherries’ late show as they scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to secure the win.
Right-Back: Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace)
The right-back made six tackles for Roy Hodgson’s side as they won 2-0 at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, a joint-high alongside teammate Luka Milivojevic. The defender showed lots of energy and drive as he proved solid in defence but also offered an attacking threat down the right-hand side.
Centre-Back: James Tomkins (Crystal Palace)
The Englishman put in a fine display in their 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town. Not only did the centre-back open the scoring at Huddersfield with a composed finish, Tomkins also made a team-high 11 clearances. In a must-win game, the defender produced a standout performance.
Centre-Back: Phil Jagielka (Everton)
The Englishman was solid at centre-back as his Everton side beat Stoke City 2-1. The defender not only performed the most clearances (five) for his side, but also managed the most recoveries of possession (11).
Left-Back: Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)
After a difficult start to life at Anfield, Robertson finally seems to have cemented his place in the Liverpool team. The Scottish fullback yet again stormed up and down the left-hand side of the pitch, performing both his defensive duties as well as proving a constant threat in attack. Against Watford, the defender recovered possession 12 times for Liverpool and provided the assist for Mohamed Salah’s first goal of the game in their 5-0 win.
Right-Centre Midfield: Idrissa Gueye (Everton)
The midfielder has become an important cog in the Everton machine and played another vital role in the centre of the pack on Saturday against Stoke. Gueye was superb in possession of the ball as he completed more passes than any of his teammates with 92% accuracy.
Centre Midfield: Luka Milivojevic (Crystal Palace)
The Crystal Palace captain again led from the front in his side’s 2-0 victory over Huddersfield. The midfielder was essential in breaking down play and keeping the ball for his side. He even got his name on the scoresheet, albeit from the penalty spot.
Left-Centre Midfield: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)
The English midfielder might have gone unnoticed by many due to the performance of his teammates, but his role in Liverpool’s resounding win against Watford deserves some praise. Henderson had more touches (105) and made more passes (93) than any of his teammates in the 5-0 win at Anfield. He was essential in recycling the ball and driving the Reds forward from midfield.
Right Wing: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
The star of the weekend was undoubtedly Mohamed Salah after his four-goal haul against Watford. The Egyptian was again in scintillating form as he left the defenders trailing in his wake on several occasions on Saturday. He had a hand in all of Liverpool’s goals, assisting Roberto Firmino for the one he didn’t score in their 5-0 victory.
Striker: Cenk Tosun (Everton)
The striker who arrived in January continued his fine form by bagging a brace on Saturday against Stoke City. For the third game running, the Turkey international got his name on the scoresheet, scoring the game’s opening goal and then a late winner as his side beat Stoke 2-1.
Left Wing: Junior Stanislas (Bournemouth)
The Englishman put in a stellar performance to help his side come back from a goal down to beat West Brom on Saturday. Stanislas was proving to be a constant threat as he went close on a number of occasions for the Cherries. Then late on in the piece with the scores level, the forward thumped a free kick into the back of the net to give his side the three points.
