Cape Town City boss John Comitis revealed that Tokelo Rantie could be set for his debut for the club in the Telkom Knockout game against AmaZulu on Tuesday evening.
The former Orlando Pirates striker sealed a move to City in September as a free agent after months without any football following the mutual termination of his contract with Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi in December 2017.
Due to his lack of playing time, Benni McCarthy and his staff at City have been cautious with the striker as they look to get him match-fit before handing him his debut.
However, after weeks of waiting, fans of the Citizens could see the former Bournemouth star in action as the recently crowned MTN8 champions take on Usuthu in the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban before the two do battle again in the Absa Premiership four days later.
Speaking to KickOff.com, Comitis revealed that the striker’s debut is imminent with the doubleheader against AmaZulu on the horizon.
‘We’re hoping he could get game time in this cup game and more in the league game by the 27th,’ Comitis said.
City may have won the MTN8, but have struggled so far in the Absa Premiership as they sit in 14th place on the league table with seven points from eight games.
McCarthy will be hoping that Rantie can provide him with added firepower upfront as they look to climb the league table.
