As tension erupted into violence at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday night, a good Samaritan among the Sundowns fans reached out to rescue an Esperance supporter.
Sundowns edged Tunisia’s Esperance 1-0 in the CAF Champions League quarter-final first leg in Pretoria, an event marred by post-match crowd violence.
After a cagey affair that produced few scoring opportunities, rival supporters clashed in the stands for several minutes. Medical officials said they treated some fans for minor injuries.

“I was told that rival supporters threw plastic bottles of water at each other and there were scuffles. We treated some cuts and bruises, but nothing serious,” a medic told AFP.
Amid the unrest, an Esperance fan was seen to have fallen over the tier-one railing and could not pull himself back up. A Sundowns fan raced to his aid, amid a barrage of platic bottles, and helped to pull the Esperance supporter back to safety.
